Story
While driving the high road from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Taos, New Mexico, we happened upon this old church. San José de Gracia Catholic Church is a historic adobe church located in Las Trampas, New Mexico. Built between 1760 and 1776, it is one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States. The church features thick adobe walls, a flat roof supported by wooden vigas, and a traditional, simple facade with twin bell towers. The interior is adorned with vibrant murals and religious artifacts that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region. It remains an active parish and a testament to the enduring influence of Spanish and Native American traditions in New Mexico.
