Story
In June of 2024, I drove the high road from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Taos, New Mexico, and happened upon this old church. San José de Gracia Catholic Church is a historic adobe church located in the small village of Las Trampas, New Mexico. Built in 1760, it is one of the best-preserved examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the region. The church is known for its thick adobe walls, wooden vigas, and simple yet striking design. The interior features hand-carved altar screens, vibrant folk art, and original religious artifacts, reflecting the deep spiritual and cultural heritage of the local community. It remains an active parish and a significant landmark in New Mexico's history.
