The town of Diepgezet is set on the backdrop of the Barberton mountains between Mpumalanga and Swaziland. It was an asbestos mining town, and was subsequently abandoned in 2001 with the banning of asbestos use due to health concerns.

It was extremely eerie to walk through the destroyed churches and town halls etched with ominous messages on the walls set against the backdrop of overgrown Bougainvilleas and quaint foothills which give way to the mountainous backdrop.
